On Sunday I was craving scones, so I cooked up an idea I had. I knew if I baked a whole batch my willpower wouldn't just let me stop at one, so I made just one lovely scone. If you're expecting a friend for afternoon tea, double it and make two... otherwise enjoy alone.
Ingredients1/2 cup of self-raising flour
1/2 tablespoon icing sugar
2 tablespoons of thickened cream
Method
♥ Preheat oven to 180 degree celcius
♥ Place all ingredients into a small bowl
♥ Mix until all combined
♥ Knead a little {I did it in the bowl roughly because I didn't want to dirty a bench surface}
♥ Form into a nice round shape {about 5cm wide}
♥ Place on some baking paper on a tray
♥ Brush with a little milk
♥ Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown
♥ Enjoy while the baby naps, or before school pick-up, or as an after dinner treat {or whenever basically!}

P.S. If you're cooking for more than one or two, try this lemonade scone recipe or just multiply this recipe by how many people you plan on having over. Maths AND cooking... brilliant!
I could've written the first paragraph of this post myself. I also eat generally healthy, but have had to ban myself from baking, because I can never stop at just one biscuit/brownie/slice of cake.
ReplyDeleteThis idea is GENIUS. Portion controlled baking - love it.

ReplyDeleteOh I love this idea! I too, fall into the trap of baking and then eating {it all}. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Love It!!!! What a fantastic idea :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a brilliant idea. I'm never able to stop at one, either. I will try your recipe on Thursday when the kids are at Day Care!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally the same - love to bake, but rarely do for fear that I might just eat it ALL! Luckily my kids are getting old enough to help :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute Chantelle! I'm totally adding this to my fave bake list. What a great idea! Half the battle with baking, is the battle with my guilty conscience knowing that hubby and I will undoubtedly scoff the lot! I love baking too, so this one will come in handy for sure :o) xo
ReplyDeleteI'm so trying this! I'll let you know how they turn out. YUM!
ReplyDeleteI have blogged about your scone. I love it so much. I am also going to share this idea with all my little flood affected mums who deserve a treat :)

ReplyDeleteYou are so clever Chantelle :) xx
ReplyDeleteI have been hooked on the date scones from Bakers Delight for about 10 days now and had been thinking that I really should just make my own .... but it all seemed too hard. So thank you for this easy peasy yummy recipe - I know what I will be doing tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea as I also have ZERO willpower when it comes to baked goods! Trying this recipe this weekend as a special treat for being "good" the rest of the week ;)
ReplyDeletenice, i do the lemonade way x
ReplyDeleteThis is a such a fab idea Chantelle, I'm like your other commenters, find it hard to stop at one. Luckily I have Huge Teenager who stops me from eating all the cakes and biscuits by getting in there first.
ReplyDeleteI am in a phase of making mini-crumbles in ramekins, one for each family member so I am not left with lots of leftover crumble which I nibble up.
I just love this nurture-yourself and know yourself approach to baking. We mums can have a treat and have just one!
