I have been eagerly pecking away at my 30 by 30 list {a list of 30 things I want to do by the time I turn the ripe old age of 30 next year}. I have achieved some things, others I am still working on.A few weekends ago I thought I had absolutely, positively crossed off number ten on my list: Plan / Organise my 30th birthday. First of all I thought I wanted to go to Hawaii, then Fiji and then I decided I wanted to rent a house around Sydney for a week and have a celebration with friends.
I found the PERFECT house. I fell in love the moment that I saw it. It was right on the water. It couldn't possibly be any closer to the water without having to wear a floating device. It was stunning. So we booked it.
The property looked stunning in the pictures we saw online, but we thought we'd make a morning of it and go and check out the suburb and see what it was like. So we headed out and started exploring. Most of the houses are sooooo waterfront the only way you can have a sneak peek is on water. We hired a boat and had a sticky beak around. We had oh so much fun.

There were so many amazing houses, but the one I had picked definitely stood out, and the excitement within really hit an all time high. I could already imagine Hubby, Lacey and I hanging out there. We'd go fishing. Take a little boat out. Just kick back.
As I emailed back and forth with the agent for the property I kept seeing things about no parties. I didn't worry too much because I didn't want a party. Just a lunch with a few friends and family. I talked to my family about what they considered a party, and they thought that lunch definitely wasn't. It got the better of me though and I thought I'd check with the agent if I was allowed to have visitors.

I soon discovered that a lunch is considered to be a party. And I no longer have 30th birthday plans.
Back to the drawing board, again.
What has been your best birthday so far? How did you celebrate it?

oh no how disapppointing.
ReplyDeletedefinitely overseas. i had my 30th in spain. loved it.
i hired a house on the beach and celebrated with friends :)
ReplyDeleteluckily we had no restrictions on parties.... we had such a good night and there was plenty of space so everyone could stay.
I hope you find somewhere as gorgeous as the place you had already booked x
You are too honest for your own good! I would have just assumed a lunch was not a party - but made sure I didn't have too many guests or made too much noise - that house is soooo perfect :((((
ReplyDeleteThe photo of lacey in the lifejacket is so cute hehe
Anyway i'm sure what you decide will be bigger and better than that stupid house anyway *folds arms*
- good luck with the planning.
thats annoying.
ReplyDeletefor my 18th my boyf at the time and me hired a hotel room on the top floor of a hotel in forster. best. view. ever. anyway. i had like 20 people for my party. yes. couple of complaints. but the guy didnt care as long as nothing was broken. so that is weird they consider a lunch a party!
my best birthday would have been my 21st - the mystery flight + going to forster with my boyf and seeing friends + fam.
how annoying! that is craziness to the extreme!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture of Lacey :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame!! I too wouldn't have though a lunch would have been classed as a party, darn!!
I bet that would have disappointing to find out. Looks like a beautiful spot. I just had a quiet 30th but am thinking that I'll have a big do for my 40th.
ReplyDeleteOh my *goodness* how divine is that house?!!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, that really bites :(
ReplyDeleteWhat??? How many people were you going to have over for lunch. That totally stinks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous house! It would have been an absolutely beautiful little holiday for you!
ReplyDeleteI so wouldn’t have told them about the lunch plans either, I really wouldn’t have considered that a party in the slightest. Not unless it was with like 50 people or something.
I hope you can find an equally nice house and location.
People really out to make money these days! Hope you're able to find something you love equally as nice.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is some house! Such a shame, oh well I am sure something even better will come along that will be just perfect! Good luck, can't wait to hear all about your new plans, when then come to fruition.
ReplyDeleteDoh!
ReplyDeleteHamilton Island has lots of great houses for rent and cheap airfares...just thinking (just cos I really want to go back :) )
And the point of hiring a house that size without being able to have some friends for lunch is.............???
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating!!
I'll keep you all posted on what ends up happening.
ReplyDeleteI wish I never told them, but I guess I'd be anxious about it the whole time. I just wanted to have about 8 couples. Nothing major. And it would have only been a lunch thing. Not a night time booze session.
I think it's fate though, somehow. Perhaps I will find something even BETTER! :)
Could you have friends over and *not* tell the estate agent? They'd never know! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd Lacey is ADORABLE in her lifejacket!
Boo on them! I am sure you will find a much more wonderful and fabulous place to celebrate your birthday.
ReplyDeleteThis subject just came up yesterday and everyone at work were kind of shocked, but I technically have never had a "Birthday Party". My B-day is right around July 4th so my parents just kind rolled it all together and slapped a cake at the end of dinner. I don't feel like I lost out or anything though.
ooooh no! what a bummer, you're too honest. i usually am but can be sneaky sometimes. we hired a place out for the weekend and got married there! didn't mention a word of it, obviously, to the real estate agent. all the rules stated was it was to sleep a certain amount of people. so we stuck to that rule (didn't include the kids though) - only that certain amount of people slept at the house, but there were about 50 people there during the day/evening! i'm sure you'll find something fab! x
